About
August Bøegh is a Copenhagen-based double bassist and composer working within the contemporary jazz scene.
He started out on classical piano and electric bass before taking up the double bass. He later studied at Skurup Jazz in Sweden.
As a sideman, Bøegh has performed with musicians including Fredrik Kronkvist (SE), Rasmus Sørensen (DK), Lorenz Widauer (AT), Carl Winther (DK) and Lars Møller (DK). He is an active part of the Copenhagen jazz scene and works across a range of projects, from small ensembles to larger groups.
His approach to the double bass focuses on groove, time and interaction, with an emphasis on listening and responding to the musicians around him.
As a composer and bandleader, Bøegh draws inspiration from the modern New York jazz tradition, particularly artists such as Immanuel Wilkins, Joel Ross and Aaron Parks. His music combines strong grooves, interwoven melodies and longer musical forms, balancing carefully arranged passages with space for improvisation.
In May 2026, Bøegh recorded his debut album, Tapestry, featuring his original compositions. The album is set for release in April 2027.
